A tree, commonly 6 or 8 m. tall, sometimes attaining a height of 12 or 15 m.; young twigs more or less strigose; leaves odd-pinnate, 2.7-3.9 dm. long, the petioles and rachis hirsutulous to glabrous or nearly so; leaflets 9-21, occasionally 3-7, oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, 3-13 cm. long, 1.5-3.8 cm. broad, acute to acuminate at the apex, with the tip obtuse, inequilateral and acutish or rounded at the base, opposite or subopposite, tomentulose beneath along the midrib and lateral veins or glabrous; inflorescence paniculate, the branches loosely hirsutulous to glabrous; flowers long-pedicelled, the pedicels jointed below the middle; calyx rather thin, the lobes triangular or triangular-ovate, acute, glabrous or nearly so; petals oblong to elliptic or somewhat obovate, 5-6 mm. long, 2-2.5 mm. broad, glabrous; staminal tube lobed to below the middle, the lobes oblong, 2-toothed, villose within; anthers villose or glabrous; ovary hirsutulous, sessile on the disk; style glabrous or somewhat hirsutulous; capsule globose or subglobose, 1-1.3 cm. broad, velutinous, occasionally with long scattered hairs intermingled; seeds 6-8 mm. long.
Type locality: Jamaica.
Distribution: Mexico; Central America; Cuba and Jamaica to St. Thomas and Grenada; also in South America.

A small tree; twigs hirsute; leaves 6-10 cm. long, mostly at the ends of the branches; petioles and rachis hirsute, the petioles 2-3 cm. long; leaflets 1 1 or 13, opposite or subopposite, oblong-lanceolate to narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 2.5-3 cm. long, 0.8-1 cm. broad, more or less inequilateral and acutish at the base, long-acuminate at the apex, loosely hirsute with scattered hairs above, densely hirsute beneath when young especially on the midvein and lateral veins, petioluled; panicles axillary, long-peduncled,shorter than the leaves, the branches densely hirsute; bracts narrowly lanceolate, hirsute; flowers pedicelled; calyx hirsute, the lobes triangular or somewhat triangular-ovate, acute; petals oblong-elliptic to oblong-ovate, 3.5-4 mm. long, 1.2-1.5 mm. broad, acute or obtuse at the apex, hirsute on the outside; staminal tube lobed nearly to the base, the filaments villous above the base without and on the inside; anthers villous; ovary ovoid, hirsute; style short, glabrous, cylindric; disc glabrous.

A shrub or tree; tw T igs appressed-pubescent ; leaves about 2 dm. long, the leaflets 3-15, membranaceous, lanceolate or elliptic, 3-3.5 mm. long, 1.2-1.5 mm. broad, acuminate at the apex, acute at the base, pilose on both sides, ciliate; panicles shorter than the leaves; flowers pedicelled; calyx 5-toothed, the teeth deltoid, pubescent on outside; petals ovate-oblong, glabrous, about 4 mm. long; filaments united below the middle, villose on the inside; anthers ovoid; ovary densely hirsute. [Plant not seen.]
Type locality: " Passo-Majo " [?Paso del Macho, Vera Cruz]. Distribution: Mexico.
