Cespitose perennial, closely resembling the preceding in habit, but usually taller, 1-2 dm. high ; hypanthium usually smaller, 6-7 mm. long, more hirsute ; petals dark-violet, with shorter claw, scarcely exceeding the sepals, the blades narrower, obovate-spatulate ; upper half of styles distinct.
Type locality : Bridger Mountains, Montana.
Distribution : Rocky mountain sides, from Alberta and British Columbia to the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming.
