Cespitose, with very thick caudex ; stems usually less than 1 dm. high, but rarely 2 dm. high, glandularpubescent as well as the whole plant ; basal leaves long-petioled ; blades round-reniform, deeply and doubly crenate, 2-3.5 cm. wide; lower stem-leaves similar, but with shorter petioles ; upper ones flabellate-cun eate with winged petioles or subsessile ; hypanthium turbinate-campanulate, without the sepals 8 mm. long ; sepals ovatelanceolate, 4-5 mm. long; petals reddish-purple, about twice as long as the sepals, longclawed, the blades orbicular ; styles united to near the top.
Type locality : On the Rockj Mountains (Colorado). Distribution: Among rocks in alpine regions of Colorado.
