Brief Description

provided by EOL authors

Mixopteridae were "remarkably scorpion-like in their gross morphology" (Dunlop, 2010, p. 130).They could reach about 1 meter in length. The telson (the posterior-most segment of their body) was hollow, perhaps indicating tha they were venimous.

They likely had a tough cuticle, with pedipalps and third limbs adpated likely for capturing prey, small chelicerae, and sixth (most posterior) limbs specialized into the small paddles common euryptids.Given the shape of their sixth limbs, mixopterids were probably marine creatures, although they may have ventured onto land.
