Taxonomy & Distribution

provided by EOL authors

The species was described by Charles Kofoid in 1905 from material gathered in Southern California (USA).

The wrong citation appears in some sites "Tintinnopsis dadayi Bonnetto & Ezcurra de Drago, 1973. In: Warren, A. (2013) World Ciliophora Database"Some odd glitch has Bonnetto (sic) & Ezcurrra de Drago 1973 a paper on the taxonomy on sponges from Argentina astaxonomic authority for the species description of this tintinnid ciliate.

Tintinnopsis dadayi has been known for over a century and been reported from a wide variety of systems ranging from the Pacific Coast of California (Kofoid 1905)to the Carribean Sea (Duran 1957) and the Chesapeake Bay (Dolan & Gallegos 2001); notably, not known in the waters of Argentina.
