Shrub or small tree. Leaves opposite, oblong-elliptic, glabrous, somewhat leathery, gland-dotted, midrib prominent below. Flowers singly or in small clusters below the leaves on previous year's growth, white with a conspicuous mass of stamens. Fruit a round berry, red to purple when ripe, edible.

Bosmirtebessie ( Afrikaans )

Die Bosmirtebessie (Eugenia natalitia) is 'n klein tot middelgroot boom. Die boom kom verspreid voor deur kuswoud en afrikabergwoud vanaf Oos-Londen tot by die Lebomboberge en daar is ook 'n afgesonderde populasie op die oostelike hooglande van Zimbabwe. Die bas is gladderig ligbruin en kenmerkend is effens, hoekige gryserige takkies.
