DIAGNOSIS.—Not diagnosed.

ORIGINAL REFERENCE.—Pfeffer, 1884:13, figs. 17, 17a, 17b.

TYPE LOCALITY.—Java.

TYPES.—Holotype: Zoological Museum, University of Hamburg, male, 49.5 mm ML (not examined).

Paratypes: None.

GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION.—Known only from type locality.

Sepiella ocellata is a species of cuttlefish known only from the type locality off Java. The depth range of this species is unknown. Only a single male specimen has been recorded. The status of S. ocellata is questionable.[1]

Sepiella ocellata grows to 50 mm in mantle length.[1]

The type specimen was collected off Java and is deposited at the Zoologisches Museum in Hamburg.[2]

Sepiella ocellata is een soort in de taxonomische indeling van de inktvissen, een klasse dieren die tot de stam der weekdieren (Mollusca) behoort. De inktvis komt enkel in zout water voor en is in staat om van kleur te veranderen. Hij beweegt zich voort door water in zijn mantel te pompen en het er via de sifon weer krachtig uit te persen. De inktvis is een carnivoor en zijn voedsel bestaat voornamelijk uit vis, krabben, kreeften en weekdieren die ze met de zuignappen op hun grijparmen vangen.

De inktvis komt uit het geslacht Sepiella en behoort tot de familie Sepiidae. Sepiella ocellata werd in 1884 beschreven door Pfeffer.[1]
