Malpighia canescens Ait. Hort. Kew. 2 : 105. 1789.
Leaf-blades oblong-elliptic toobovate, 3-12 cm. long, obtuse, copiously whiteor silverypubescent beneath, veiny on both sides, acute at the base, short-petioled ; pedicels pubescent ; sepals oblong, 4-5 mm. long, the glands about one half the length of the sepal-body ;
inner petal spatulate ; ovary and st.vle pubescent ; drupes 2-lobed, 10-13 mm. in diameter.
Type locality : Cultivated from the " West Indies." Distribution : Mexico.
