Malpighia mexicana f. subglabrata Niedzu. Gen. Malp. 4. 1899.
Leaf-blades ovate, 2.5-7 cm. long, obtuse at the apex, bright-green above, paler beneath, glabrous and very finely reticulate in age, abruptly narrowed or rounded at the base, very short-petioled ; cymes sessile or nearly so, the branches finely pubescent ; sepals ovate, 2-2.5 mm. long, glabrous or nearly so, the glands much more than one half the length of the sepal-body ; corolla not seen ; drupes depressed, fully 1 cm. long, red.
Type locality : S. Augustino, Mexico. Distribution : Known only from the type locality.

Leaf-blades ovate, varying to orbicular-ovate or oblong-ovate, 1-6 cm. long, acute or obtuse, more or less pubescent, bright-green above, paler beneath, obtuse or rounded at the base, very short-petioled ; cymes peduucled, the branches rather copiously pubescent ; sepals oblong-ovate, 2.5-3 mm. long, bearded, the glands about one half the length of the sepal-body ; corolla pink, 11-13 mm. wide, the larger petals 5.5-6 mm. long ; drupes much depressed-ovoid, 8-9 mm. long, much w-ider, red.
Type locality : Guaymas, Sonora.
Distribution : Western Mexico.
