Flowering and fruiting from July to October.
Dolomiaea souliei var. souliei is close relative of Dolomiaea souliei var. mirabilis, but differs from the latter in its leaves green to pale green, concolorous (vs. abaxially grayish white, adaxially green to pale green).
Dolomiaea souliei is occurring in W Sichuan, E Xizang of China.
Herbs stemless. Leaves rosulate, petiolate; petiole 6-16 cm long, densely arachnoid-tomentose, strigose, and glandular-punctate; leaf blade elliptic, narrowly elliptic, lanceolate, or oblanceolate, 10-30 cm long, 5-15 cm wide, green to pale green and concolorous, sparsely strigose and glandular-punctate, margin lobed and spinosely toothed, rarely entire; teeth apically with a spine; lateral lobes obliquely triangular to broadly lanceolate; terminal lobe similar to lateral ones but smaller. Capitula 5-8, clustered in phylum of rosette. Involucre broadly ca. 4-6 cm in diameter; bracts apex caudate-acuminate and spinose; outer ones ovate to ovate-elliptic; middle ones obliquely elliptic to lanceolate; inner ones lanceolate. Corolla red, ca. 5 cm long; tube slender. Achenes cylindric. Pappus elements in many rows, yellow-brown, short plumose or scabrid.
Growing in grassland or thickets; 3600-4700 m.
The roots of Dolomiaea souliei are used medicinally.
