Achatocarpus oaxacanus Standley, Contr. U. S. Nat. Herb. 23: 264. 1922.
A shrub (or tree?), the twigs puberulent, armed with slender spines 6 mm. long or less; leaf-blades elliptic or obovate, 4.5-7 cm. long, 2.3-3.6 cm. broad, obtuse or rounded at the apex, acute to acuminate at the base, glabrous above, densely pubescent beneath ; racemes numerous, few-flowered, 2.5 cm. long or less; rachis pubescent; pedicels 1-2 mm. long; sepals obovate to suborbicular, 2 mm. long, rounded at the apex, minutely puberulent or glabrate; fruit 3-4 mm. in diameter, glabrous.
Type locality: Between Jamiltepec and Rio Verde, Oaxaca. Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
