provided by BioPedia
Heterophrys is a centrohelid heliozoon with a mucous coat incorporating radial organic spicules, and often contains algal symbionts. Four species are known, mostly occuring widely in marine waters. Sizes range from 10 to 80 microns. Freshwater reports of Heterophrys are made less often, mostly of H. marina, which lives in both marine and freshwater environments.
