Large hypermastigid (450-500 µm), living in Mastotermes darwiniensis; body broadly triangular in shape with an anterior rostrum completely flagellated and the cell body covered by longitudinal rows of flagella except the amoeboðd posterior area, which is separated by a girdle and used for ingestion; nucleus is situated in the anterior region and axostylar fibres surround the nucleus and some of them group to form a central axostyle posterior to the nucleus; flagellar area of the rostrum is composed of long radiating basal bodies; no rostral tube and cap; flagellar area posterior to the rostrum is composed of basal bodies prolongated by three to four short radiating striated roots; three privileged basal bodies in rostrum; at division the whole flagellar area of the rostrum regresses and two new areas are probably formed from the numerous basal bodies which have accumulated in a central column from the nucleus to the rostrum; type species: Deltotrichonympha operculata Sutherland, 1933.
