Erect perennial herb, usually less than 10 cm. Leaves sessile, linear, 1-3 × 0.2-0.4 cm, sparsely appressed hairy, hairs not glandular, acute. Flowers solitary in axils of leaf-like bracts. Calyx segments 5, one much larger than the other 4, connate for c.1/3 to 1/2 of their length below. Calyx lobes (free part) linear, ciliate, the longest c.11 mm, the rest 5-8 mm. Corolla 2.5-3 cm, purple, upper lip paler than the lower. Stamens 4.
