Neotibicen resonans (formerly Tibicen resonans; see Hill et al. 2015) is found in the southeastern coastal plain of the United States. It is known from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia (U.S.A.). Sanborn & Phillips (2013) collected specimens from longleaf pine (Pinus palustris Miller) and slash pine (Pinus elliottii Engelmann) in the panhandle of Florida.(Sanborn & Phillips 2013).
The song of this large-bodied cicada is a fast harsh "dee-dee-dee" (Hill et al. 2015).
Megatibicen resonans, commonly called Resonant Cicada or Southern pine barrens cicada, is a species of annual cicada in the genus Megatibicen. Prior to its reclassification to the genus Megatibicen, M. resonans was included in the genus Neotibicen.[1]
