Perennial herb, up to 15 cm high, growing from a ovoid tuber c. 10 cm in diameter. Stems up to 15 cm long, decumbent or spreading horizontally, reddish-green, hairy. Leaves opposite, more or less narrowly ovate, 2-6.5 cm long, mostly folded lengthwise, dull bluish-green and hairless above, hairy below; apex mucronate; petiole up to 3 mm long. Flowers in terminal or axillary branched heads, 3-5 flowers per branch. Sepals purplish-green. Corolla lobes spreading, oblong-ovate, 4-8 mm long, purplish-green outside, hairy, inside yellowish-green with a bright magenta-purple inverted 'V'. Corona lobes 3-partite; central segment filiform c. 10 mm, much longer than lateral. Fruit in paired follicles, spreading horizontally, narrowly ovoid, 5-8 cm long.
