This scarlet red flower grows normally in Mediterranean regions, in Israel it penetrates the deserty. Here you can see typical carpets of the transition zone, just approaching the desert.

Ranunculus asiaticus (Turban Buttercup) is a common and protected flwoer in Israel. Almost all flowers are red (unlike the rest of the Mediterrnaena where white, pink and yellow forms occur). This is the progenitor for the cultivated forms that have fuller flowers. I found it very hard to get right this very bright red (in the film era it weas easier).

Most of the plants of this species have white flwoers in Cyprus, some are pink, like this one.

Ranunculus asiaticus is normanlly red in Israel, but rarely one can find yellow and orange ones (like u see here).
In the rest of the Mediterranean area there are white and pink forms.
