Deutzia mexicana Hemsl. Diag. PI. Nov. 9. 1878.
A shrub 2-5 m. tall, the bark pale, the twigs scurfy ; leaf-blades thickish, lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 2.5-6 cm. long, rather closely but finely serrate or serrate-dentate, acute, tomentulose above, densely pale or whitish pubescent beneath, mainly rounded at the base ; buds about 4 mm. long just before anthesis ; sepals broadly ovate, about 2 mm. long during anthesis and reflexed; petals obovate, 5-6 mm. long; filaments 3-3.5 mm. long; capsules 4.5-5.5 mm. wide, crowned with the reflexed sepals.
Type locality : Orizaba, Mexico.
Distribution : Mexico.
