The Genus Comptosia

This genus was first described by Macquart, 1840. The latest revision by Yeates, (Invertebr. Taxon., 1991, 5, 1023-178) reviewed the genus and its synonomies in detail. He described 58 Australian species and noted there were a further 80 species in Australian collections awaiting description.

Comptosia is a genus of bee flies (insects in the family Bombyliidae). There are at least 62 described species including the common Australian insects Comptosia apicalis, Comptosia neobiguttata and Comptosia insignis.^[1]^[2]
