Hesperolinon clevelandii (Greene) Small
Linum Clevelandii Greene, Bull. Torrey Club9: 121. 1882.
Plants 1-3 dm. tall, the stem simple at the base, dichotomous above, usually purple, puberulent or glabrate ; leaf-blades linear or narrowly linear-spatulate near the base of the stem, or linear-lanceolate above, mostly 9-21 mm. long, acutish, entire, more or less villous above, narrow at the base, somewhat involute ; bracts similar to the leaves but smaller ; pedicels filiform, becoming 9-20 mm. long ; outer sepals lanceolate, becoming about 3 mm. long, acute, entire, glabrous ; inner sepals ovate-lanceolate, shorter than the outer ones, sparingly glandular-toothed ; petals yellow or yellowish, 4-5 mm. long; capsules ovoid, about 3 mm. long, slightly surpassing the sepals.
Type locality : Allen's Springs, California. Distribution : Middle and northern California.
