A shrub or small tree, with grayish bark and glabrous branches, or when young pubescent with short, mostly appressed hairs ; petioles grooved, usualhhairy ; leaflets somewhat coriaceous, the terminal one spatulate, the lateral variable in size, obovate or oblong, obtuse or notched at the apex, 1-4 cm. long, 4-14 mm. broad, sessile ; calyx about 2 mm. broad ; sepals mostly less than 1 mm. long, ovate to nearly triangular ; petals rather thick, ovate to oval, 2.5-3 mm. long, 1.5-2 mm. broad ; carpels pubescent with few, scattered appressed hairs; samara winged only on the upper portion of the back, 1-1.5 cm. long ; seeds linear-oblong, 5.8-6 cm. long, nearly terete, slightly curved, black.
Type locality: Near Carrizal, Nuevo Leon. Distribution : Texas and Mexico.
