Aspicarpa hyssopifolia A. Gray, Bost. Jour. Nat Hist. 6: 167. 1850. Stems and branches tufted, erect, mostly 1-3 dm. tall, pale, copiously strigose; leafblades lanceolate, linear-lanceolate or linear, or oval, oblong, or ovate near the base of the plant, mostly 1-2.5 cm. long, acute, with scattered appressed hairs on the margins and on the midrib beneath, sessile and partly clasping ; petaliferous flowers terminating strigose pedicels which are shorter than the leaves ; sepals ovate, about 3 mm. long, the glands one half as long as the sepal-body or less; larger petals 5-7 mm. long; cleistogamous flowers sessile ; nutlets usually solitary, 4.5-5 mm. long, with a sharp uneven crest and swollen tuberculate-wrinkled sides, minutely pubescent.
Type locality : Rio Grande and Rio Seco, Texas. Distribution : Southern Texas and adjacent Mexico.
