Geranium clarum Small, sp. nov
Perennial, the caudex branched. Stems diffusely spreading or procumbent, finely retrorse-pubescent throughout, widely branched ; leaf-blades pentagonal in outline, 2-4 cm. wide, sparingly pubescent on both sides, bright-green and somewhat lustrous above, slightly paler beneath, all, except those of the upper ones, 5-parteil, the divisions cuneate, incised and coarsely toothed, the teeth ovate; pedicels retrorse-strigillose ; sepals awntipped, the outer ones 5-6 mm. long, the bodies oblong or nearly su, with appressed hairs on the veins and finely ciliate, the tips less than 1 mm. long; petals white, 11-12 mm. long, prominently notched ; fruit not seen .
Type collected on the west slope of Mt. Zempoaltepec, Oaxaca, Mexico, Julv 5-13, 1894, E. II". Nelson 552.
Distribution : Known only from the type locality.
