Adults occur in shallow areas of rivers and creeks, with sandy substrate and a strong current. Feed on algae. Are relatively abundant and are often found together with Leporinus despaxi, Bryconops affinis and Eigenmannia virescens (Ref. 12225). They generally swim with the head oriented downward (Ref. 27188). Distinct pairs breed on densely grown weedy places (Ref. 205).
