Distinct pairs breed on densely grown weedy places (Ref. 205).

Occurs in shallow areas of rivers and creeks, with sandy substrate and a strong current. Feeds on algae. Is relatively abundant and is often found together with Leporinus despaxi, Bryconops affinis and Eigenmania virescens.
