Biology

Inhabits stagnant waters as well as shallow waters of smaller rivers with organic material and low velocity. Abundant in creeks with much organic matter but also resides in the shallow waters of rivers (Ref. 36880). Feeds on aquatic insects. Forms small groups on the river bottoms.

Andinoacara coeruleopunctatus, is a species of fish in the family Cichlidae in the order Perciformes, found in Central America on both the Atlantic slope of Panama and the Pacific slope of Costa Rica in the Coto River.[1]

Description

Males can reach a length of 14.5 centimetres (5.7 in) total in length.[1]

Spawning

The fish is an open bottom spawner which produces eggs by the hundreds. Both parents care for their eggs and fry until the fry are free-swimming for a week.[1]
