Trophic Strategy

Occurs mainly in coastal waters and coral reefs (Ref. 559, 58534). Also found in inlet waters and estuaries of rivers (Ref. 559). Juveniles associate with drifting seaweed (Ref. 12114, 12115). Feeds on small benthic invertebrates, planktonic organisms, algae and detritus, among other food items. Dwells in coastal waters with various substrates as well as brackish waters and hypersaline lagoons (Ref. 127989).
