Spots subcircular or slightly elongate, reaching a diameter of 1 cm., or occasionally two or three coalescing giving rise to a compound spot which is irregular in form and much larger, at first almost blood-red, fading in the center to whitish or pinkish, the margin remaining very dark-red or reddish-purple or almost black; pycnidia numerous and closely crowded near the center of the infected area, about equally conspicuous on either side of the leaf, reaching a diameter of 150-200 m; spores subglobose to broad-ellipsoid, densely filled with a granular matter, about 8 X 10-12 /z.
