Colonies. On oatmeal agar attaining 3 cm diam. in 7 days at 25°C, after 15 days turning fuscus black to dark mouse grey; exudate absent, reverse colourless; aerial mycelium loose-textured, velvety or floccose, irregularly branched, smooth-walled, almost colourless to brown. Ascomata. Mature within 15 days, superficial, blacked ornamented with numerous hairs, globose to ovate, ostiolate, 160-340 μm diam., with a wall of dark brown angular to irregular, flattened cells, 5-12 μm diam.; ascomatal hairs undulate to wavy, brown, rarely branched, finely verrucose to nearly smooth, septate, markedly narrower at septa, appearing articulate, pale brown, 2-4 μm wide at the base, tapering toward the tips. Asci. Broadly clavate, stalked, 8-spored, evanescent, 60-90 × 20-30 μm. Ascospores. Broadly fusiform, (18-) 20-22 (-26) × (14-) 16-18 (-20) μm, biapiculate, pale brown, each with a single, subapical (sometimes apical), protuberant germ pore, 2-2.5 μm diam. Paraphyses. Not observed.
