This species is the shrubby green lichen in the centre of the photo, with fawn-coloured discs (the white crusts behind it are unrelated species). It is a maritime species that grows above the high-water mark, and there were many of them growing on the boulders in this rocky bay. In certain parts of the country (Shetland, N. Wales, St Kilda), sheep roaming on the shore will graze on this species, which is known locally as "sea ivory". The fawn-coloured discs are the apothecia (the spore-producing structures).
