Description: Tylopilus alboater (Schwein.) Murrill Image location: Lambir Hills National Park, Borneo, Sarawak, Malaysia The description in Corner fits this well, with the red to black color change in the flesh, the color of the fresh fruitbody, and the microscopic features of the spores and hymenium. Is this really the same species found in SE USA, though? We have a partial ITS sequence for it, but there is little Tylopilus sequence available for comparison. The specimen is UC1860256 and will be available in the UC herbarium. It currently resides with Todd Osmundson at Berkeley. Used references: Corner Boletus in Malaysia Based on microscopic features: Spore size, shade and cystidia all fit
