The trail is right along the river so the soil is very sandy and there are lots of oaks, hickory, and pine trees. The gills are a white color when in the button and juvenile stage, then the gills turn black. The flesh stains a dark reddish color when cut open, i neglected to take a picture of it cut open. After I cut it I did notice an anise smell.
