Description: Laetiporus gilbertsonii Burds. Location: Pasadena, California, USA Observation Notes: I found this growing on a wounded limb of a carob tree on Linda Vista. It is rather soft and watery.September 1 update: it is now growing in profusion on 7 out of 43 carob trees in the vicinity, with signs of previous year’s growth on at least two others. No question about its identity now. Wonderful creatures!Sorry, Darvin, I can never remember the scientific name of carob’s wen I need it. Too late now, but it is Ceratonia siliqua. Very much a deciduous tree. Image Notes: Same location. : For more information about this, see the observation page at Mushroom Observer.
