Diagnostic Description

A species belonging to the genus Leptodoras by having modified oral hood and first gill arch with enlarged accessory lamellae extending well onto medial face of gill filaments. Differs from other species of Leptodoras by having the following three unique characters: gas bladder moderately sized (not reduced) and with simple walls (diverticula absent), and paired bony capsules on anteriormost vertebrae reduced to paired cup-like laminar ossifications separated by a triangular septum (Ref. 79526).

Caught at night on a large sandy shoal where the main channel of the river is wide and shallow (less than 2 m in depth) ) and with sluggish current. This species was also collected at night along a sandy beach with moderate current (Ref. 79526).
