Diagnostic Description

Hind tibiae without apical spurs; basicosta without strong setae; third antennal segment with a strong dorsobasal forward pointing spine which often reaches to or beyond the end of the basal flagellomere; eyes bare; not a stout, bee-like species; antennal scape not greatly elongated; frontal callus present; wings with dark markings, sometimes faint; frontal callus as wide as the front; mesoscutum often transversely banded; species not entirely black; mesoscutum without longitudinal stripes; frontoclypeus tomentose; at least fifth tergite with a pale hind border; proximal margin of the wing fascia smoothly sinuous, passing through the fork of veins R4 and R5, fascia dark and of even intensity to the wing margin, basal hyaline area strongly yellow; abdominal yellow bands very wide, occupying over two-thirds the width of their respective segments, widest in the middle.
