Tabanos

Non-forested lowlands.

This species is nocturnal.

Distribucion en Costa Rica:
Distribucion General: Southern Mexico to northern Brazil; Trinidad.

Females feed on the blood of large mammals, especially domestic animals such as horses, pigs and cattle. It does not seem to feed on humans.

Immature stages have been collected in decaying leaves in small pools of water in a nearly dried up stream bed.

Hind tibiae without apical spurs; basicosta without strong setae; third antennal segment with at most an acute dorsobasal angle; tibiae not or only slightly inflated; frontal callus absent; uniformly pale pilose insects with greenish integument and unbanded eyes; labella sclerotized; wings with distinct dark spots on all crossveins and at the tips of the longitudinal veins; all tibiae black haired apically.
