Vriesea platynema is a species of perennial herb in the family bromeliads. They are native to The Neotropics, Mata Atlântica, Rio Grande Do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and SãO Paulo. Flowers are visited by Dusky-throated Hermit, Saw-billed Hermit, Geoffroy's Tailless Bat, and Ipanema bat.
