Diagnostic Description
provided by Harmful Phytoplankton Project
Like all dinophysis species the epitheca is much smaller than the hypotheca of this species. The epitheca is convex and resembles a cap. Their are 4 epithecal plates all of which are highly areloated. It has two lists (anterior cingular list (ACL) and posterior cingular list (PCL)) both are fairly broad and thin They are also supported by many ribs. The sulcus is made up by several plates, irregular in both shape and size. It also houses the flagellar pore. The hypotheca contains four plates and as mentioned previously makes up most of the cell. The dorsal side is convex, the ventral is straight until the bottom of the LSL were it is concave.
