Akashiwo (ah-cash-ww-woe) sanguinea (previously Gymnodinium sanguinea) has an equatorial flagellum lying in a groove (girdle or cingulum) near the centre of the cell and a second flagellum trailing behind the cell and arising in a longitudinal groove or sulcus.
