Plants slender, 0.4–1.0(–1.5) cm high, yellowish green or brownish green, not shiny or somewhat shiny, in dense tufts. Stems erect, simple, or rarely branched. Leaves distichous, 0.8–1.4 mm long, abruptly narrowed from an ovate or oblong-ovate, sheathing base to a short, setaceous acumen, the acumina ca. 1/3 as long as the sheathing base; margins plane, minutely crenulate above the shoulder; costa stout, shortly excurrent; upper cells irregularly quadrate, 6–8 µm; basal cells nearly quadrate, 8–11 µm × 7–8 µm, thin-walled. Sporophytes not seen.
