Plants small, 6–9 mm high, yellowish green, in loose tufts. Stems simple or sparsely branched; central strand slightly differentiated. Leaves crispate when dry, erect-spreading when moist, linear-subulate from an oblong base, 1.3–2.4 mm × 0.1–0.3 mm; margins entire or nearly so; costa percurrent; upper cells oblong-rectangular to irregularly rhomboidal, 21–33 µm × 7–9 µm, thick-walled; lower cells elongate, linear-rhomboidal, 48–90 µm × 8–13 µm, thin-walled. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves larger, up to 3.1 mm long. Setae very short, 0.2–0.4 mm long; capsules deeply immersed, ovoid, 1.3–1.6 mm × 0.6–0.7 mm, with abruptly tapered, short neck, 0.25–0.40 mm long. Calyptrae mitrate, smooth, 6-lobed at the base. Spores 28–31 µm in diameter, spinose.
