Prionus imbricornis - this female was found ovipositing in my lawn one night, about 9:30 p.m. I find the males frequently at lights during late June, but seldom see the females. They are very uncooperative photographic subjects--running continuously when contained, and they are very strong. I count 18 segments on an antenna for this invididual, confirming that it is a female
imbricornis. Similar species in this area have fewer segments. Body length (measured) is 40 mm--these things are huge!
