2010.03.07 Austria,Lower Austria, district Schwechat, 158 m AMSL (Harte Au - broadleaf forest).First leaf shoots come out late in february or in march (they're a delicacy of local cuisine), and where they grow in huge numbers their smell of garlic literally hangs in the air. This year there are at this time only a very few specimens with fully enfolded leaves like that one, but there are plenty of smaller shoots and they'll very shortly cover the soil almost completely, at this place.Begins to flower only in april/may.(Also in this picture: Galanthus nivalis, young shoots with buds.)Very common in wet broadleaf forests.German name: Br-Lauch (and Schneeglckchen)
