Terrestrial herb, 30 - 50 cm. Flowering stem with sheathing leaves; foliage leaves 3 to 5, on a separate sterile shoot. Inflorescence very dense, many-flowered, up to 20 cm long, the bracts often drying black. Flowers mostly pointing downwards, varying from nearly white to deep pink purple and scarlet, lip up to 5.5 mm long, strap-shaped.

Disa versicolor é uma espécie de orquídea geralmente terrestre pertencente à subtribo Disinae. Esta espécie é originária do sul da África tropical e da África do Sul.^[1] Trata-se de planta com raízes tuberosas vilosas de poucas ramificações e caule sem ramificações nem pilosidades, com folhas geralmente anuais, inflorescência também sem ramificações, flores de sépala dorsal galeada e pétalas oblongas, labelo sem calcar, e coluna sem apêndices proeminentes, com duas polínias.^[2]
