Description

More or less erect perennial herb, up to 50 cm tall, growing from a woody rootstock. Leaves with a short petiole or sessile, ovate to lanceolate, up to 6 cm long, finely puberulous above, roughly hairy on the midrib and veins below; margin crenate-dentate to sharply dentate except near the base. Inflorescences terminal or leaf-opposed, spike-like up to 11 cm long. Flowers unisexual on the same plant. Fruit 3-lobed, 5 × 8 mm, smooth, puberulous with rough hairs on the ribs of the lobes.
