This species occurs in moist pine woods. The florets are often irregular and in the female ones, an occasional fertile anther may be found, sometimes 1-celled instead of 2-celled.

Small tree; branchlets slender, densely, minutely sub-adpressed tomentellous. Terminal bud elongate-conical, with many scales, c. 1 cm long, the upper ones minutely sericeous. Leaves aggregate, chartaceous, narrowly oblong to oblong to sublanceolate oblong to suboblanceolate-oblong, 1-4 x 4-12cm, attenuately acuminate, base shortly acute to rounded, both surfaces minutely areolate-reticulate; main nerves prominulous; above glossy green, beneath whitish, initially sparsely sericeous, soon glabrous; the sub-basal lateral nerves reaching 1/3-1/2 the lamina length, lateral nerves 5-8 pairs, erect-patent, arcuate, connected by numerous, fine, parallel, sub-horizontal secondary nerves. Petiole slender, glabrescent, 1-1.5 cm long. Umbels axillary on an up to 1 mm long, thick communal, bracteate peduncle. Bracts ovate-elliptic, 4-5 mm, minutely laxly sericeous. Male flower: pedicels 2-2.5 mm, villous; tepals oblong, glabrous, 2 mm; stamens 4 mm, strongly exserted; basal glands small, attached to the basal half of the filament. Female flower: tepals oblong, 2mm; style 1.5 mm, stigma minute, peltate. Fruit ellipsoid-globose, 6 x 8 mm; pedicel slightly obconical, slender, 7-10 mm, mature cup flat, disc-like, 2-3 mm in diameter, thin, the margin of 6 broad lobes.
