Description of Dysteria antarctica
provided by BioPedia
Cells are slightly reniform and 5-13microns long. Two unequal flagella insert into an indentation in the flattened posterior margin. One flagellum is about 4 times the cell diameter and the other about 2.5 times the diameter. They are both tapered at the distal end. Cells swim, with both flagella directed behind, twisting round each other as the cell rotates.
