下頜長大於上頜長，鱗片為長桿狀與圓形呈緊密排列，體色為棕色，鋤骨齒呈2-3排，總共35顆，前上頜骨篩骨複合齒呈棒狀，多而小，總共36顆；前鼻孔具有皮瓣突出，開口朝向吻端，後鼻孔呈環形，周圍具有皮瓣，眼眶下有5個感覺孔，顳骨有1個感覺孔，鰓蓋前下頜有6個感覺孔；背鰭前脊椎骨數15，肛門前脊椎骨數52，總脊椎骨數135，肛門前側線孔數50，背鰭至側線的鱗片數11。形質測量上，各部位與體全長TL的百分比：肛門前長度49.9％，尾長52.6％，軀幹長36.8％，鰓孔位體高8.3％，肛門位體高9.5％，背鰭前長22.1％，頭長13％，側線長84.2％；與頭長的百分比：上頜長65.3％，下頜長69.4％，眼窩間距24.5％，吻長27.4％，眼徑長15.6％，胸鰭長29.4％，鰓孔長3.1％。各部位與體全長比例：肛門前長度1比2，尾長1比1.9，軀幹長1比2.7，鰓孔位體高1比12，肛門位體高1比10.5，背鰭前長1比4.5，頭長1比7.7，側線長1比1.2；與頭長的比例：上頜長1.5，下頜長1.4，眼窩間距2.7，吻長2.4，眼徑長6.4，胸鰭長3.4，鰓孔長32。(陳鴻鳴、楊瑋庭)

屬深海底棲性魚種，為295-5440公尺深之優勢魚種，生活於有洋流的海底，以小型魚類、甲殼類及軟體動物維生。生態習性不甚清楚。
