Polygala desertorum Brand. Proc. Calif. Acad Sci. II. 2: 130. 1889.
Frutescent, severalto many-stemmed, 2.5 dm. high, erect, sparsely strigillose; leaves linear to linear-lanceolate, 9-18 mm. long, 1-1.5 mm. wide, acute, ciliate and appressed-pubescent, sessile, firm, the lowest linear-obovate, obtuse; racemes loose, 5-9 cm. long, 51 4-flowered ; flowers purple and yellow; sepals oblong-oval to elliptic, glabrous, 5-7.5 mm. long; wings purple, oblong-obovate, glabrous, veiny, 8 mm. long, 3.4 mm. wide, rounded, appearing apiculate by the inflexing of the sides; keel yellow, 8.5 mm. long, the blunt beak 2.2 mm. long; capsule oval-oblong, glabrous, 5-5.5 mm. long; seed subsericeous, 3.5 mm. long; aril 1.2 mm. deep, corneous, glabrous, with oblong lateral lobes.
Type locality: Agua Dulce, Lower California.
Distribution: Lower California.
