A small tree about 6 in. in height, with a trunk-diameter of 7.5-10 cm., glabrous throughout with the exception of the puberulent inflorescence ; leaves alternate, digitately 3-foliolate, the leaflets oblong to obovate, 3.7-12.5 cm. long, 1.4-4.6 cm. broad, rounded at the apex, and more or less decurrent on the petiolule to near its base ; flowers about 55.5 mm. in diameter, in a short, broad, terminal panicle; sepals orbicular or nearly so, minutely ciliate, glandular-dotted ; petals oblong-elliptic to oblong-ovate, sometimes obovate, 2.7-3 mm. long, 1.5-2 mm. broad, glandular-dotted; filaments subulate, accumbent in the shallow grooves of the disk, the anthers ovate, cordate at the base; disk 1.2-1.5 mm. in diameter ; capsule 3.5-5 cm. broad, deeply 5-lobed, ridged, sometimes beaked ; seeds brownish.
Type locality : Woods near Tampico, Tamaulipas. Distribution : Tamaulipas and Guerrero.
