Rhamnus alaternus (Italian Buckthorn) is a species of shrub in the family Rhamnaceae. They are native to Ukraine, Tunisia, mediterranean region, Italy, Israel, Algeria, France, Libya, Albania, Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Yugoslavia, and Turkey. They have fleshy fruit. Flowers are visited by Bombus terrestris lusitanicus and Yellow-bowed Smoothwing. Individuals can grow to 5 m.
